We’ve all been there. You put laundry in the washing machine and 30 minutes later you have something else to do. Suddenly, it’s been two days and your laundry smells worse than it did before. After moving to a new house with the washing machine in the not-often-traveled basement, Maker Xose decided to do something about this with a “laundry done” alarm.
This build took the form of a modified Wi-Fi switch, along with a board to measure power output. After determining the washer’s power cycle, he decided to write a program that would notify him through Node-RED via an ESP8266EX.
Though he modified hardware to accomplish this, Xose is quick to note that anything involving mains power should be treated with extreme caution. If you don’t have the proper knowledge, projects like this should be avoided.
