Kode Dot Wants to Dethrone the Flipper Zero
The upcoming Kode Dot may be the product to finally dethrone the Flipper Zero.
The Flipper Zero is a kind of electronic multitool gadget and it has been ridiculously popular. So, it isn’t surprising that other brands have tried to replicate that success. None of them have pulled it off, but the upcoming Kode Dot may be the product to finally dethrone the Flipper Zero.
The Kode Dot Kickstarter campaign is live right now and will run until December 23rd. It has already raised well over $100,000 from more than 650 backers. Clearly, people are excited about the potential of the Kode Dot.
It is hard to describe the Kode Dot as anything other than a Flipper-like gadget. It has a huge assortment of functions accessible through various apps and modules, plus several communication and connectivity options. It can do everything from controlling a robot to covertly shutting off a TV at a bar.
The big advantage of the Kode Dot, compared to the Flipper Zero, is the full-color AMOLED touchscreen. It has a different microcontroller (an ESP32-S3, compared to the Flipper Zero’s STM32WB55), but the capabilities are similar. The Kode Dot’s final specs aren’t available yet, as they depend on the Kickstarter campaign’s performance, but they already look good.
In the end, the success of the Kode Dot will depend on the community and the apps they develop. If you want to be part of that effort, you can grab a Kode Dot for $129-149 (depending on edition). They should ship in July of next year.
