Traditional whiteboards are great when it comes to curating ideas from a brainstorm session, solving math problems, or sharing illustrated examples. But then again, what if instead of writing on the board, it could take input from your phone and output it as a nice clean drawing on a wall-mounted canvas?

That’s exactly the purpose of Joto. This connected display, reminiscent of a polar plotter, uses a gantry assembly to draw with a pen on a whiteboard. The robotic system is controlled wirelessly through an accompanying app, enabling you to jot down notes, spell out messages, leave reminders, and create sketches. It can even be set up to interact with various devices and services including Twitter, Spotify, Slack, and Amazon’s Alexa.

The team will be releasing a public API and open sourcing some of its software, allowing developers and tinkerers to devise new integrations for Joto. Current use cases range from simple decorations, to updatable menus at restaurants, and even to-do lists that you can physically annotate as needed.

Want this Etch A Sketch-like display for your home, dorm, or office? Joto is now on Kickstarter!
