JMO and CODICO Partner on the Edge Impulse-Compatible Qualcomm Dragonwing-Powered PERSPEC-1
Triple-sensor AI camera system is designed to deliver computer vision from three 12 megapixel sensors at 30 frames per second.
A collaboration between JMO and CODICO has delivered a triple-camera artificial intelligence (AI) vision system, powered by a Qualcomm Dragonwing chip and delivering full support for the Edge Impulse platform: the PERSPEC-1.
"PERSPEC-1 is powered by a powerful Qualcomm Dragonwing SoC [System-on-Chip], and is fully compatible with the end to end AI development platform from Edge Impulse," the companies say of their creation. "It enables concurrent support for three high resolution cameras with support in our compute and AI module for advanced concurrent AI processing, delivering a total of 12 TOPS [Tera-Operations Per Second] of AI processing power in a cost-effective and rugged package. Our solution has been developed to run multi-camera, multi-modal AI workloads in industrial settings such as automated product inspection, quality control, process monitoring, and other use cases."
The hardware is built around the Qualcomm Dragonwing QCS6490 system-on-chip, the same as found in Qualcomm's own RB3 Gen 2 robotics platform β featuring one high-performance Arm Cortex-A78 Kryo Gold Plus core running at up to 2.7GHz, three Cortex-A78 Kryo Gold cores running at up to 2.4GHz, and and four low-power Cortex-A55 Kryo Silver cores running at up to 1.9GHz, a sixth-generation Qualcomm AI Engine with Hexagon 770 tensor and scalar accelerators and vector processing extensions delivering up to 12 tera-operations per second (TOPS) of minimum-precision compute, an Adreno 643L graphics processor, and an Adreno 633 vision processing unit, along with triple-band Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 radios.
In the case of the PERSPEC-1, this power is brought to bear on a triple-camera AI vision system featuring a 12 megapixel resolution at 30 frames per second. Development of the AI model itself takes place through the Edge Impulse Studio platform, with the required software installed atop the bundled Canonical Ubuntu 20.04 Linux operating system β a somewhat outdated, and out-of-mainstream-support, version, which will hopefully soon be upgraded to the recently-fully-certified Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
More information on the PERSPEC-1 is available on the CODICO website, where it's up for sale at β¬1,999 (around $2,400) including camera modules; details on using it with Edge Impulse is available on the company's documentation site.
