Ivan Miranda is a YouTuber who is known for his massive 3D-printed creations. He has built everything from the world’s largest Nerf Gatling gun to a tank big enough for a full-grown man to ride inside — all with 3D-printed parts. If you have any experience with 3D printing, then you know how long it takes to fabricate even a small part, much less something on this scale. That’s why Miranda recently started building a massive 3D printer, and he has now wrapped up the project!

We ran a post about a month ago about the progress Miranda was making, and now he has proven that his design works. To give you an idea of scale, this printer has a bed that measures an impressive 800 x 500 mm. That equates to about eight times the area of the Prusa i3 MK3’s bed. But if everything else was equal, it would take a frankly absurd amount of time to actually use all of that space. Most FFF (Fused-Filament Fabrication) 3D printers are designed for a balance of speed and quality, and commonly have a 0.4 mm nozzle. Even with a powerful and speedy extruder, that can only pump through a limited volume of material.

To overcome that, Miranda equipped his 3D printer with an E3D Hemera (formally the Hermes) extruder with a SuperVolcano hot end. That has a huge 1.2mm nozzle. It sacrifices some fine quality, of course, but dramatically increases the print speed. Everything is controlled by a Duet2 controller, which features a 32-bit processor, silent TMC2660 stepper drivers, built-in WiFi, and more. Miranda had to replace the bed after the original bed heater caused the mirror bed to shatter, but then was able to successfully complete a print. He printed a huge 800 mm combination wrench in a mere 6 hours, and it turned out very well. Now Miranda can 3D-print his big creations quickly and efficiently.
