IoT Hub's LoRaWAN Button Packs GPS, BLE, and an Accelerometer Into a Compact Panic Button

Designed for locating the unit in an emergency, the LoRaWAN Button can run for up to a month at five-minute reporting intervals.

Shenzhen-based IoT Hub has announced the launch of an all-in-one LoRaWAN button that combines long-range, low-power connectivity with GPS geolocation, Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity, and an accelerometer sensor — and is positioning the part as perfect for personal protection.

"It's a LoRaWAN-based network IoT button specifically designed for both indoor and outdoor tracker objects," the company writes of its latest launch. "It is compact, mini and easy to use. LW004-PB is a panic button it will send position information to server when it is triggered until stop the alert. It can be used in the emergency case for personal safety and alert notification."

"In an emergency, you can trigger an alarm to send location information. Usually, you can set the reporting interval to report the location information regularly. The panic button adopts an independent button with a granular feeling, which is separated from the switch button to avoid false triggering. [Also], the product has a built-in vibration and 3-axis sensor, which can sense the alarm status and data sending status through vibration in the case of an alarm, and detect the dynamic state of objects or personnel through the 3-axis sensor data."

The button can be ordered to operate in the 868 and 915 MHz frequency bands depending on local regulations, with mention of 433 and 470 MHz variants which are not yet available to order, and includes LoRaWAN v1.0.3 support for long-range communication and Bluetooth Low Energy 4.2 support for shorter-range communication. An integrated GPS receiver offers geolocation accuracy to 2.5 metres, while an integrated rechargeable battery offers a claimed month of operation per charge based on a five-minute reporting interval with GPS disabled. All the hardware is housed in an IP65-rated ABS/PC housing.

The LoRaWAN Button is now available to buy on IoT Hub's Tindie store, priced at $89 regardless of frequency chosen.
