A lot of the products and projects we cover here at Hackster are pretty complicated. I often find myself racking my brain to find a way to make highly-technical devices understandable to broad audiences. I’m not having that problem with the Hatputer—it’s just a computer stuck onto a hat.

I do mean “stuck” in the literal sense, as the Hatputer is a prototype created by the fine people over at Sticker Hat. They produce a hat with Velcro on the front, so that you can easily swap patches to display to the world. Or, in this case, swap in a computer with a screen to display to the world.

They describe their goal well in a statement on the project: “Looking to be the bad boy of the computing industry, Hatputer aims to take over the hat-based computer market.” As far as I can tell, that’s definitely true. In the hat-based computer market, the Hatputer seems to be the top dog.

Swacksoft Softworks Workshop, developer of Burrito Galaxy, raves about the experience, “With the perfect portability it has to offer, and how difficult, yet fun it is to see things on this small screen—how could you work on anything else? It takes a long time to compile, and my head is REALLY hot, but it’s worth it.”

The Hatputer isn’t available for sale yet, but if you want to prepare for the upcoming hat-based computer trend, you can go ahead and buy yourself a Sticker Hat.
