HackyPi 2.0 Is Here!
Rohit is launching the new and improved HackyPi 2.0 through Kickstarter.
A few years ago, I told you about the HackyPi. It is a small USB gadget intended for learning about ethical hacking and it is pretty popular in the community. Now its creator, Rohit, is launching the new and improved HackyPi 2.0 through Kickstarter.
Like the original HackyPi, HackyPi 2.0 is a thumb drive-size device built for ethical hacking. It is most suitable for USB-based attacks, like what you typically see under the “BadUSB” umbrella. Keystroke injection is the most obvious use case, but there are plenty of others and most of them rely on HackyPi 2.0’s ability to trick computers into thinking it is a safe and trusted device, like a USB HID keyboard.
Compared to the original HackyPi, the new HackyPi 2.0’s biggest hardware upgrade is to the microcontroller, from a Raspberry Pi RP2040 to an Espressif ESP32-S3. That has a number of advantages and the most notable is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
Because it has Wi-Fi, HackyPi 2.0 can work in conjunction with remove devices and services. You can even use it with an AI in the cloud, which opens up some interesting possibilities.
If you want a HackyPi 2.0, you have until January 16th to back the Kickstarter campaign (which is already fully funded). Super early birds can get a HackyPi 2.0 for about $53 and it should ship in March of 2026.
