Great Scott! Is That GBA Running on 1.21 Gigawatts?

With the addition of a 162,000mWh battery, this Game Boy Advance can run for months without a recharge.

That should do it! (📷: Bangooh)

Some people put an awful lot of effort into preparing for the worst-case scenario. Whatever may come, natural disaster or otherwise, these individuals pride themselves on having everything they need to get by without help from the outside world. While these efforts typically involve stocking up on nonperishable foods, batteries, and other basic necessities, Redditor Bangooh is apparently more concerned about the availability of retro gaming consoles if everything suddenly goes sideways.

Sure, you may have enough old consoles and games to entertain you for years, but what if the power grid is down? Bangooh no longer has to fear this possibility after adding a 162,000mWh rechargeable battery to a Nintendo Game Boy Advance. Yes, you read that right — 162,000mWh.

This massive battery is meant for use with electric power tools and outputs 18 volts. The Game Boy Advance runs on 4 volts, so a buck converter was installed to step the voltage down. With this huge battery, the console should be able to run nonstop for several weeks. So for the typical gamer, a battery life of several months is likely.

No detail was missed (📷: Bangooh)

Bangooh wanted the hacked Game Boy to not only work well, but also to look nice. So the case of the handheld (if it can still be called a “handheld”) was painted yellow and black to match the look of the DeWalt battery that it sits on top of.

It may have taken almost 25 years to get here, but I think we have finally reached peak Game Boy Advance with this hack.
