Google recently released a new sensor board under their Coral brand for the Raspberry Pi or the company’s own Coral Dev Board, which adds a range of sensors and an OLED display. The Coral Environmental Board is designed to connect to Google’s Cloud IoT Core service, allowing you to securely link your projects and then collect, analyze, and process the sensor data using Google’s lineup of ML tools (or whatever platform you prefer).
As for specs, the Coral Environmental Board packs a 128 x 32 OLED display, and a trio of sensors, including an ambient light sensor, barometric pressure sensor, and humidity/temp sensor, as well as connections for UART, I2C, and PWM. There are also four Grove connectors that let you take advantage of Seeed’s catalog of sensor, actuator, and communication modules, further expanding the board’s capabilities.
Rounding out the Coral Environmental Board’s feature set is a 40-pin GPIO header compatible with most Raspberry Pi boards, plus a Microchip ATECC608 CrypoAuthentication chip (with Google keys) and a general purpose programmable button and LED. Google states that the board includes a single key (private, public, and certificate) that will enable communication with the Cloud IoT Core right out of the box.
Google’s Environmental Sensor Board retails for $24.95 and has uploaded a full data sheet, along with a handy start guide that walks you through the setup process and provides a sample demo that users can try to become more familiar with the board.
