If you’d like to know the weather in a nice “wordy” format, this display may be a good project for you. Creator “AughtNaughtZero” constructed this “Weather Words Forecast” device using a Raspberry Pi to fetch weather data from the Weather Underground service. Once it has the data, a series of programmable RGB LED lights illuminates in the appropriate pattern to reveal a correct forecast.

Cleverly, instead of starting from scratch, AughtNaughtZero used a shadow box for the gadget’s housing, and procured material from cereal boxes for light isolation.

If this build looks familiar, that’s because you may recall this similar display that used words to literally “spell out” the time; and this Maker even points to these projects as inspiration.
