Daft Punk, as pioneers in electronic music as well as techo-cosplay, have inspired countless costume creations. However, as Bucky Badjer puts it, few, if any, offer a complete step-by-step instructional with code to make it work. His project is a great-looking 3D-printed build, and the documentation outlines everything you need to get started on your Thomas Bangalter helmet (the one with the visor).

The first, and most obvious, element to such a build is actually constructing the helmet, perhaps easier than ever with the wide proliferation of 3D printing equipment. This excellent model is used here, along with a 1/8” thick smoked acrylic sheet as the visor to conceal an array of addressable WS2812B LEDs underneath. Notably, you’ll need to check the size of any helmet you download and scale as appropriate, as no one wants to spend hours waiting for a print to finish, only for it not to fit!

A belt-mounted control box holds the electronics, including an Arduino Nano that drives the visor LEDs. Visor user input is provided by a pushbutton panel, allowing the wearer to select between a number of animations. Both earpieces also feature LED lighting, controlled by a microphone and IR remote. A 10,000mAh USB battery keeps things running, with the two USB outputs split up to power the visor and ears.
