Dtronixs' FeatherWing Prototyping Accessory Aims to Make Feather Board Breadboarding a Cinch

The add-on board is designed to minimize floorspace while maximizing how much breadboard is available for your project.

Dtronixs' Tony Dixon has teased a new prototyping board for Feather form factor development boards, designed to make it easy to get started with breadboarding a new project.

"I’ve been a long time fan of the Arduino Nano and before those the Arduino Mini boards. I really like the compact Nano footprint and prefer it to the standard Arduino Due style," Dixon explains. "When I ran of computing processing power I would swap the Nano’s for the STM32 blue pill boards. So I thought I had a good choice of modules to choose from. But this has changed recently and another module footprint has entered my projects orbit."

"The Adafruit Feather modules have been around for a few years and a recent project requirement saw me using their nRF52840 Express module for a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) based design. I liked what I saw but couldn’t find a decent prototyping solution, so I designed this prototyping / breadboard to help with getting my Feather module projects started."

The board accepts a Feather-format development board on top, and acts as a FeatherWing extension with female 2.54mm pin headers — making it easy to wire to a 400-hole solderless breadboard, which can be mounted to the side. To the other side of the breadboard are mounting points for three tactile switches and three LEDs, while the board also features an FTDI-style serial header.

Dixon has promised to put the boards up for sale on the Dtronixs Tindie store, but at the time of writing they had not yet appeared for sale. More information is available on Dixon's blog.
