Disarm a Remote Bomb with this 'Escape Room in a Box'
This Arduino Mega-powered Bomb Disarming Puzzle suitcase lets players save the day!
If you’ve ever tried an escape room, you know that the fun comes from solving a number of interactive riddles with friends. The only problem is that you need an actual room to set one up, making these a pursuit that can’t really be done at home without a lot of effort. As an alternative, hacker Jason R came up with what he describes as an escape room-esque bomb disarming puzzle in a small suitcase.
The build is beautifully done, with a simulation that starts out with the player ‘discovering’ a small suitcase with a severed hand and glove clutching a document labeled ‘TOP SECRET.’ From these documents, the participant or participants are introduced to the story line and given some brief instructions that they’ll use to hopefully prevent disaster.
You can see it in action in the video below, with Jason inputting different codes and connecting jumpers to apparently link up to and disarm the remote device. The whole thing is very well done, and has a definite early James Bond feel to it, helped along by a computerized female voice with a vaguely English accent.
The unit takes input from a variety of switches, knobs, and a keypad, plus patch cables to help you link up to the bomb. LED outputs, an LCD display, and a variety of sub-puzzles and documentation are there to help guide you along. An Arduino Mega is used for control, with a rechargeable USB power bank to keep everything powered for the 60 minutes you have the solve the puzzle and prevent disaster!
