Fans of famous Detective Conan can now join the Detective Boys themselves, thanks to a custom walkie-talkie pin badge built around an Arduino-compatible Microchip ATmega328P microcontroller by pseudonymous anime enthusiast and electronic tinkerer "DanieElectronics."

"[This is a] walkie-talkie pin badge from the Detective Conan anime series using a custom PCB and an ATmega328P (Arduino) microcontroller," Danie explains of the board. "Integrated rechargeable battery, battery lasts around 4-5 hours and can be charged in one hour using any USB-C cable."

The badge is shaped for the Detective Boys logo from the popular manga and anime series Detective Conan, and includes a silhouette of a certain consulting detective in deerstalker and pipe. As well as identifying members, it allows them to communicate β€” a feature included in Danie's recreation.

"To use the walkie talkie plug any headphones with microphone into the 3.5mm audio jack, then flick the switch on the left side of the board and the LED will light up," Danie explains. "Finally press and hold the button on the board to transmit audio, all the near[by] walkie talkies will receive and play the audio. No pairing or previous configuration is needed."

The transmission takes place over an nRF24L01 module, having been encoded by the microcontroller; when received, the audio is decoded and played back β€” with a line-of-site range of around 100 meters (around 328 feet), Danie estimates.

The design files and source code for the project have been published to GitHub under an unspecified open source license, though Danie warns that there are "some small design issues" in the initial release.
