DefProc Engineering's Wonkeyboard Is the "Smallest, Full-Size, 1% Mechanical Gaming Keyboard" Around

DefProc Engineering has showcased what it claims, with tongue firmly in cheek, to be the "world's smallest, full-size, 1 percent mechanical gaming keyboard:" the Wonkeyboard.

"[Wonkeyboard] is an internal project here at DefProc, meaning we get to tell you about it," the company announced on its Twitter account this week. "It is simple, fun and functional."

At its simplest, Wonkeyboard is a single mechanical keyboard switch mounted in a smart-looking base with a USB Type-C connector. With power, a push of the button lights up LEDs in the base to provide feedback; with a connection to a host PC, the Wonkeyboard acts as a keyboard — albeit with only one key.

The trick lies in three different modes programmed into its controller. The first is "Morse code mode," which as the name suggests, lets the user tap out a sequence of Morse code in order to type — in which mode it, DefProc claims, "functions as a full-sized keyboard," albeit one you need a little knowledge to operate.

In its second mode, the keyboard acts as a macropad — enabling a pre-programmed string of key presses to be triggered on a single push. Finally, "serial repeat mode" allows for quick copy-and-pasting.

DefProc has not yet confirmed whether it plans to offer Wonkeyboard kits for sale, but has suggested anyone interested should follow the company Twitter account for more information.
