It seems like everything these days is becoming smarter, and that doesn’t exclude our shoes. While the idea of customized sneakers is a far cry from new, one NYC-based startup has decided to take another step into the future by creating footwear that can display personalized images on its back. (And you thought your LA Lights were cool!)
Let’s face it, shopping can be an expensive hobby. But what if instead of filling your closet with countless pairs of kicks, you only need one that could change its appearance at the press of a button?
That’s the idea behind Vixole — a customizable pair of e-sneakers with a flexible LED display. Simply capture a photo or upload a design, and then show it off to the world right from your smartphone.
With several built-in sensors, Vixole’s mid-tops can seamlessly integrate with your favorite gaming, fitness, and navigation apps via its open API. For instance, haptic sensors embedded in its sole can provide you with turn-by-turn directions or notify you of incoming calls. There’s also a step tracker (obviously), thanks to an accelerometer.
Each pair of Vixole is charged wirelessly and boasts a battery life of up to eight hours.
Sound like the smart shoes for you? Check out Vixole’s Indiegogo campaign here! There are currently three variations available for pre-order, ranging from a regular monochrome LED display to a full-color HD OLED.
