Create IoT Prototypes With Ease Using the Nordic Thing:52 Dev Kit

Nordic Semiconductor has introduced a new single-board Bluetooth 5-compatible BLE development kit that offers out-of-the-box wireless configuration from smartphone apps and the cloud.

Nordic Thingy:52 enables Makers and developers with no firmware coding expertise or high-level tools to quickly design and demonstrate IoT projects, using the kit’s accompanying app over the provided Bluetooth API from a mobile device.

The power-optimized sensor kit is based on Nordic’s nRF52832 BLE SoC, which combines a 64MHz, 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4F MCU with a 2.4GHz multiprotocol radio, plus 512KB flash memory and 64kB RAM. This SoC runs Nordic’s S132 SoftDevice, an RF software ‘stack’ that can support up to 20 concurrent connections in a variety of BLE role combinations.

Thingy’s PCB is housed inside a 6cm x 6cm plastic and rubber case, which includes a USB connector to charge the device’s li-ion battery. The dev kit features a built-in digital microphone and speaker, a nine-axis motion sensor, as well as temperature, humidity, pressure, air quality, and color sensors.

Whether its altering air quality parameters over-the-air or adjusting LED colors in response to Alexa voice commands, Nordic Thingy:52 enables you to bring your IoT prototypes to life without needing to build hardware or write firmware. The development kit even works with IFTTT.
