Synthesizers generate sound by manipulating audio signals according to a variety of algorithms, with the controls modifying the variables that are fed into those algorithms. Some of the most basic synthesizers, for example, generate square waveforms with varying frequencies and amplitudes controlled by the user input, which ultimately alter the volume and pitch of the sound. As those algorithms become more complex, they require more computing power to process. So, for complex and many-layered algorithms, you want something powerful, and the new Percussa micro Super Signal Processor Eurorack Module is definitely powerful.

The Percussa micro Super Signal Processor Eurorack Module (mSSP) recently launched on Kickstarter, and was designed from the ground-up to be as powerful as possible. It’s based on one of Arm’s fastest processors, the Cortex-A17. That has four cores running at 1.8GHz, and has been paired with high end AKM audio converters that provide up to a 192kHz sample rate at a 32-bit resolution for eight inputs and four outputs.

mSSP will come with 50 modular synthesis patches — 25 chosen by Percussa and 25 that will be voted on by backers. The custom DSP software will also include 25 built-in synth modules. You can, of course, create and load your own custom modules. That all fits into a 26HP Eurorack module. The interface is a 320x240 full-color IPS display, with four high-quality click-less rotary encoders and eight switches. Connectivity is handled through two USB host ports and a serial console connector.

The Percussa micro Super Signal Processor Eurorack Module Kickstarter campaign is running until December 23rd, and a standard unit is $699. Rewards are expected to ship in June 2019.
