Hello reader! Don’t take this the wrong way, but — and this is just between you and me — you should probably be getting some exercise in everyday. Of course, literally nobody has the time to go to the gym. And, unless you’re some kind of wealthy oligarch, you probably don’t have room in your home for a dedicated workout machine like a stair climber. But, you may have a staircase, in which case you could copy YouTuber Colin Furze and turn it into a giant inclined treadmill.

As with many of Furze’s projects, such as his shingle-tossing toaster and viral-hit Hulkbuster mech suit, this project is really just for funsies. But, as usual, that doesn’t mean it isn’t both impressive and entertaining. To be clear, this project may be funny, but it’s not a joke — Furze really did turn his staircase into a massive working treadmill that could theoretically be used for actual exercise.

The frame, which extends the entire length of the staircase, is made from a combination of plywood, boards, steel, and aluminum. Each end has a roller, and the tread loop wraps around the entire assembly between the two rollers. It’s driven by a hefty gear motor that was salvaged from a wheelchair. That does mean it needs to be run on batteries — or at least a substantial DC power supply. But, it seems to work well. This project is still in progress, so be sure to follow along to see the finished product and get the inspiration you need to convert your home into a workout machine.
