Poultry farming, at least the kind that you might do in your backyard, isn’t normally a high-tech endeavor. On the other hand, a normal coop door wasn’t good enough for Ziven Posner, who instead built an automatic iris portal for his family’s chickens to go in and out.

The door itself was constructed out of wood using a laser cutter and CNC router. Opening and closing is handled via a DC motor, which is controlled by a toggle switch with the help of an Arduino, a motor shield, and limit switches.

This posh setup now opens and closes with the flip of a switch, and after some initial hesitation, the chickens are able to hop out of their home in fabulous sci-fi style!
