After building a NeoPixel 7-segment clock for his dad several months ago, hacker David Zweben decided that he needed his own. However, he didn’t want to solder 90 lengths of wire onto 180 pads again to make it work. Instead, he came up with a design that uses separate PCBs to hold the needed LED strips.

The device is powered by an Arduino Mini clone, with an RTC module in order to keep accurate time. The results — as seen in the first video below — are quite beautiful, allowing the time to be displayed as character segments that can change colors gradually, almost like a rainbow.

V1 can also be seen in the second video. It uses a different modular approach to the digit display, but has largely the same software configuration.
