Japan-based electronics designer and manufacturer Bit Trade One has launched a new USB adapter — the TracXcroll, which transforms trackballs into scrollers, allowing you to navigate images and apps with vertical and horizontal movement.

Bit Trade One goes on to explain:

“In addition to replacing the ball function with vertical and horizontal scrolling and shortcut keys, you can also replace button functions with shortcut keys. Furthermore, by registering the application to be used, it also supports automatic profile switching.”

Bit Trade One states the adapter hacks the function of the trackball:

“TracXcroll works as a keyboard and mouse. You can not select applications such as illustration creation or movie editing. In Photoshop, you can utilize trackball by assigning brush size change and screen movement.”

Bit Trade One is currently crowdfunding the TracXcroll on Kickstarter with pledges starting at about $44 and up, which gets you multiple adapters the higher you go. It should be noted that not all trackballs are created equal, so the device only works with select brands and models. Compatible hardware includes:

  • Kensington: Orbit Wireless Trackball, Expert Mouse Optical Trackball, Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball, Orbit Optical Trackball, Orbit Scroll Ring Trackball, and the SlimBlade Trackball.
  • Logicool: Trackman Marble, Wireless Keyboard K275, M570 Wireless Trackball, MX ERGO Wireless Trackball, and WIRELESS MOUSE M325T.
  • Sanwa: MMA-TB44BK, MA-WTB43BK, MA-TB41S, and MA-TB42BK.
  • Elecom: HUGE M-HT1DRBK (wireless), HUGE M-HT1URBK, EX-G M-XT2DRBK (wireless), EX-G M-XT2URBK, EX-G M-XT4DRBK, DEFT M-DT1DRBK (wireless), DEFT M-DT1URBK, DEFT PRO M-DPT1MRBK, and EX-G PRO M-XPT1MRBK.
