Arduino Says Matter Education Matters, Launches the Arduino Matter Discovery Bundle
New Arduino Nano Matter-based bundle targets education and experimentation in the smart home field.
Arduino has announced the launch of the new Matter Discovery Bundle, following a teaser earlier this year at the Bett educational tradeshow in the UK.
"The new Arduino Matter Discovery Bundle is designed to give you everything you need to learn, prototype, and build Matter-enabled devices, so you can focus on experimenting and exploring new possibilities," the Arduino team says of the company's latest hardware bundle.
"What's more, with the bundle you also gain access to a dedicated, seven-module curriculum that will take you from complete beginner to builder of certified Matter-over-Thread products. The Arduino team developed this specific program to balance theoretical knowledge and practical exercises, from initial setup to advanced features."
The new bundle couples an Arduino Nano Matter development board, officially launched back in December 2024 following a "community preview" period and which is based on the Silicon Labs MGM240S system-on-chip, with a Nano Connector Carrier to provide solderless QWIIC-format expansion to three included Modulino nodes: the Latch Relay, Distance, and Thermo boards.
The idea, Arduino explains, is to provide a one-box solution to experimenting with the cross-vendor Matter smart home communication standard. The Modulino Latch Relay provides an output, and is capable of switching loads of up to 250VAC 8A, while the time-of-flight (ToF) Distance board and temperature-and-humidity Modulino Thermo act as inputs. As with Arduino's previous educational bundles, the hardware is supported by a free course that walks the user through using and programming the devices.
"This is another step we are taking to make Matter – and all the smart home and domotics applications it enables – accessible to the widest community possible," the Arduino team says of the bundle.
The new Arduino Matter Discovery Bundle is now available to order from the Arduino Store, priced at $61.04; additional Modulino modules can be added to expand its capabilities further.
