Arduino's Compact Modulino Family Grows Bigger with Four New Models
New breakouts add haptic feedback, joystick control, load-switching, and light monitoring to the range.
Arduino has announced four new entries in its Modulino family of solderless add-on boards: the Modulino Latch Relay, Modulino Light, Modulino Joystick, and Modulino Vibro.
"If you’ve ever wanted to go from idea to prototype in minutes – without fiddling with wiring diagrams or debugging connections – then you probably already know (and love!) Modulino," the Arduino team writes of its latest launch and the products which preceded it. "These compact, plug-and-play nodes have made it easier than ever to prototype, learn, and build with Arduino. And now the ecosystem is getting even bigger."
Arduino's Modulino range of solderless breakout boards started life as part of the company's Arduino Plug and Make Kit, before being released as individual gadgets in their own right. Designed for prototyping and experimentation without the need for a breadboard, they link to compatible Arduino boards' Qwiic connectors over short lengths of cable — and the family is now four models larger.
The four new models are: the Latch Relay, which provides a way of easily switching high-power loads; the Light, an ambient brightness detector with IR detection and color recognition; the Joystick, targeting gaming and robotics control projects; and the Vibro, a haptic feedback board promising "silent vibration."
All boards work with any Modulino-compatible development board, including not only the company's latest Arduino UNO Q single-board computer but the earlier UNO R4 WiFi, compact Nesso N1, Nano R4, and the Nano Connect Carrier. They're also compatible with other 3.3V-logic Arduino boards using a Qwiic-to-breadboard jumper cable or headers on the side of each board — and example code for both Arduino-flavored C/C++ with the Wiring library and MicroPython are provided.
The Modulino Latch Relay, Modulino Light, Modulino Joystick, and Modulino Vibro are now all available to buy on the Arduino store, priced at $10.09, $8.27, $15.23, and $11.36 respectively.
