Arduino Brings Full Edge Impulse Integration to App Lab for Easier Machine Learning on the UNO Q
Arduino's first single-board computer in the UNO family now gets an easy way to train and deploy computer vision and other edge AI models.
Arduino has announced that its partnership with Edge Impulse has reached a new level: the latest update to the Arduino App Lab, created for the Arduino UNO Q single-board computer, includes full integration with Edge Impulse Studio for training and deploying computer vision and other edge artificial intelligence (edge AI) models.
"While Arduino App Lab has always made it simple to get started with pre-built AI examples, we knew there was a strong desire for a smoother way to develop and use custom AI models," the Arduino team writes of the new update. "With this release, that experience is now fully integrated and guided through the UI, making custom AI a natural part of the Arduino App Lab workflow."
The Arduino App Lab was launched alongside the Arduino UNO Q as a way of writing software that can run on the board's application-class microprocessor while still making use of the microcontroller for real-time workloads. At the time, Arduino talked up its partnership with Edge Impulse as a way to make on-device machine learning easier — and this latest update now brings full native integration, allowing the Arduino App Lab to connect to the Edge Impulse Studio platform for model training and deployment.
"This integration brings the flexibility of Edge Impulse together with the simplicity of Arduino App Lab," the Arduino team promises. "Now you can experiment, prototype, or build something truly unique leveraging custom machine learning – now easier to define, manage, and deploy without breaking your creative flow."
The latest version of Arduino App Lab is available on the Arduino website, though you'll need an Arduino UNO Q to make use of it; the source code is published on GitHub under the reciprocal GNU General Public License 3.
