An "Uncrushable" Suitcase Arcade
Perfect for gaming on the go!
Some time ago, “bliskin” was talking to a coworker about miniature arcade machines that they’d seen at Walmart. Rather than simply buy something, this hacker decided to instead build a custom machine that was more powerful and easily portable.
The obvious choice here for most people would be to go with a Raspberry Pi, but an old gaming PC that was “collecting dust in the garage” was instead selected for the project. For the body, a rugged Seahorse SE-920 case was used, which is waterproof and crush resistant. Perfect for those treacherous journeys where you just have to take your arcade setup along with you.
A 23-inch display was obtained at a thrift store and attached to hinged top, and audio feedback is emitted from a pair of excellent Klipsch speakers also found at a thrift store. The case offers a nice housing for the computer, and even acts as a speaker box, reportedly producing enough bass that it feels almost like vibration feedback.
A laser-cut steel plate with carbon fiber-style vinyl wrap on top provides a home for the buttons, which were reportedly a breeze to set up (with the exception of some replacements ordered later) and look fantastic. The rig appears nicely finished, and could certainly inspire other portable, and “uncrushable” arcade builds in the future!
