If you struggle each morning to get out of bed on time, an app built during TechCrunch’s recent Disrupt SFHackathon may change that. How, you ask? By making the snooze button have some serious (and costly) consequences.
Created by developers Jade Feng, Junshu Okamoto and Muhammed Gü, Dooze is described as a “convenient way to force you out of bed.”
The app leverages three different APIs: Alexa, Braintree and Twilio. Dooze connects with Braintree to charge your credit card a predefine amount of money each time you silence the alarm on your Amazon Alexa device. If you pass a certain threshold, Dooze will then automatically notify a friend a friend via an SMS to take action, so that you don’t miss your 8am class or an important appointment with a client.
However, the team encountered a major setback. According to TechCrunch:
Alexa doesn’t really allow you to set an alarm at this point. The team hopes that Amazon will add this ability in the next version, though… and the plan is to come back to the service once Amazon makes it easier for them to work with alarms.
