Standing desks seem to be gaining more and more popularity as a way to combat health issues associated with sitting in front of a computer screen for long periods of time. To help with this, IKEA makes a motorized version that that can adjust to different positions as needed.

Taking things one step further, hacker Robin Reiter engineered his IKEA Bekant to remember and adjust automatically to two positions as needed via physical buttons. Expanding on this, Dirk Grappendorf decided to convert his desk into a true IoT device, adding an ESP8266 module for Wi-Fi capabilities.

By doing so, this allowed him to integrate his table with Alexa, meaning that he can now simply lift and lower using voice commands — as seen in the first video below.
