The Taranis RC controllers from FrSky are mid-range units with a few extra features that you don’t usually see on budget drone controllers. One of those features is a small LCD that’s used to display various flight-related data. Another is sound output, which is intended for playing notifications. And, thanks to GitHubber GilDev, you can now use those to play music.

The project works on the FrSky Taranis Q X7, the Taranis X9D, and their derivatives. Installation is as simple as downloading the folders and copying them to your controller’s SD card. That includes the script to make it all work, along with the proper folder structure.

The script uses an iTunes playlist file, but the music itself must be in WAV format to work. Once installed, you just navigate to the TaraniTunes player and start listening. Playback controls are handled by the existing switches and buttons, so it’s easy to use. And, it doesn’t affect the rest of the controller functionality, so there is no risk in trying it out yourself.
