Adafruit Unveils the PyPortal's Higher-Resolution Stablemate: Enter the PyPortal Titano

Adafruit is set to upgrade its PyPortal CircuitPython-powered Internet of Things (IoT) display platform, introducing a new larger model with a higher-resolution display: the PyPortal Titano.

Adafruit's original PyPortal, which paired a Microchip ATSAMD51J20 microcontroller and Espressif ESP32 coprocessor with a 3.2" color 320x240 resistive touch display, can be found in projects as distinct as conference badges and reflow ovens. Now, a larger variant is on the way offering double the display resolution without sacrificing any of the features of its predecessor.

The PyPortal Titano swaps the display out for a 3.5" 480x320 variant, offering double the overall number of pixels and an increased pixel density. The same ATSAMD51J20 and ESP32 microcontrollers are present, providing the same Wi-Fi connectivity as before, though the power and data connector has been updated to a USB Type-C from micro-USB.

As with its smaller predecessor, the PyPortal Titano includes a range of extras as standard. There's 8MB of on-board flash storage plus microSD expansion, a speaker, light sensor, temperature sensor, RGB NeoPixel, I2C ports, and two user-accessible analog/digital pins. At present, Adafruit has only unveiled the bare board; as with the original Titano, however, it's expected to launch a range of 3D-printable case and mount options.
