Cyberdecks have become more popular over the years and are akin to custom laptops, allowing users to take their decks anywhere. Depending on who you ask, cyberdecks are ubiquitous to cyberpunk, Shadowrun, and other futuristic games and enable hackers to plug into any available access point. Others would say cyberdecks came about as early forms of laptop computers in the age of the Apple II and Commodore 64. Regardless, they are great projects as unique as their designers' imaginations, including Reddit user u/plepoutre, with his Acoma Stratos.

The Acoma Stratos is designed around an ultra-thin Raspberry Pi 4 with an integrated copper heatsink for dissipating heat efficiently. It's also outfitted with a Klim Dash TKY keyboard with Choc switches and an Ecran LCD TFT 9-inch display for easy viewing. The case was scavenged from a defunct HP EliteDesk PC, which u/plepoutre painstakingly gutted and fashioned into shape using only a Dremel knockoff. He cut holes for the various I/Os, including 5X USB 2.0 ports, 1X USB 3.0 port, Ethernet, HDMI, and a USB Type-C port. He also added a trio of on/off switches for the Pi, battery, and LCD, complete with LED status indicators.

Beneath the LCD panel shows the on/off switches for the Raspberry Pi, battery, and LCD.

While it's easy to replace the keycaps on most mechanical keyboards with many different colored sets, it's not easy to find any online, as most are either sold out or come in the form of group buys. That said, u/plepoutre painted his keycaps a flashy red and black to match the case motif, which turned out well. The entire unit is powered by an RPI UPS V3 board with 8X 18650 batteries, making the heavy metal cyberdeck even heavier. Overall, the Acoma Stratos is an excellent example of what can be done with the Raspberry Pi 4 and a little bit of ingenuity.
