AAEON Integrates a Hailo-8 Accelerator Into Its Latest UP Squared Pro 710H Edge Industrial PC
With a 26 TOPS accelerator on board and room for more if that's not enough compute, the UP Squared Pro 710H Edge targets your edge AI tasks.
Embedded computing specialist AAEON has launched a new entry in its UP Squared Pro family, the UP Squared Pro 710H Edge — offering an integrated Hailo-8 accelerator for high-performance yet energy-efficient edge artificial intelligence (edge AI) and machine learning workloads.
"This release comes off the back of AAEON's recent partnership with Hailo, wherein it announced the compatibility of the Hailo-8 M.2 2280 AI module with its full UP product family," AAEON explains of its latest launch. "Building on this momentum, the UP Squared Pro 710H Edge sees AAEON bring the machine learning frameworks and pre-trained models of the Hailo AI software suite onboard by integrating the Hailo-8 edge AI processor chip into the system’s design."
The miniature industrial-focused PC itself, brought to our attention by CNX Software, is available with a choice of quad-core up-to-2GHz Intel Processor N97 or eight-core up-to-1.8GHz Intel Core i3-N305, depending on model chosen. There's up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, up to 128GB of eMMC storage, and Intel UHD Graphics outputting to HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.2 connectors. There are two 2.5-gigabit-Ethernet ports, driven by an Intel I226-IT controller, two USB 3.2 Type-A ports, two RS232/422/485 ports, M.2 E-key 2230 and M.2 M-key 2280 ports with an optional M.2 B-key 3052 port, and a 40-pin general-purpose input/output (GPIO) header.
It's the accelerator that makes the UP Squared PRO 710H Edge stand out from the crowd, though. While it's not the company's latest — that would be the Hailo-10H, designed to deliver enough compute for on-device generative AI workloads in a 5W power envelope — it offers a claimed 26 tera-operations per second (TOPS) of compute for AI and machine learning tasks, yet is entirely passively cooled by the heatsink integrated into the top of the device's case.
"Conveniently grouped bottom-side expansion slots [enable] users to scale the AI performance of the system," AAEON notes of the device's M.2 slots, "combining the 26 TOPS of its Hailo-8 edge AI processor with additional AI acceleration cards for more complex tasks such as AI inferencing, data analytics, and multimedia processing."
The UP Squared Pro 710H Edge is currently available to order on the AAEON store, priced at $568 for an Intel Processor N97-based version with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage.
