A Two-Player PCB Reflex Tester
ButtSnap is a simple yet addictive game built on a small PCB.
Perhaps you think you have fast reflexes, or at least faster than most of your friends. When you’re ready to put this to the test, however, then “ButtSnap” by studioBelow lets you find out for sure. The device takes the form of a 25mm x 60mm PCB, which you and your competitor each hold between your thumb and index finger. When a trigger LED in the middle lights up, the first to press his or her button is the winner of the round, indicated by a P1 and P2 win LED.
Competition sets go to 10 points by default, but can be configured by holding the player 1 button when it’s powered up. You can also check the current score by holding one of the buttons, and high scores are permanently saved in memory. Additionally, the lights will randomly start flashing in rapid succession, indicating a bonus round where players must hit the button as many times as possible to win. All of this functionality is accomplished with only two buttons, three LEDs, and a power switch, certainly making it one of the most amazing uses of IO resources seen here!
If you’d like one yourself, they’re available on Tindie for a very reasonable $11, including a CR2032 battery to power the unit. The board even has a keychain hole, allowing you to challenge potential competitors at a moment’s notice.
