A RetroPie Barrel Arcade That Streams Spotify
This Raspberry Pi-powered barrel arcade runs Spotify off your phone and adds some booze storage.
As a big fan of gaming, you always look for new easy to make arcade machines. To serve this, we have several retro arcade and console systems flooding the market. This is not the first time we have seen an arcade machine with a barrel as the cabinet. Yet, Redditor 'breadtangle' has decided to craft one of their own using a Raspberry Pi and a $150 barrel alongside the aesthetic glass top that streams Spotify music.
"By far, the hardest part of this build was figuring out all the curves where the controls attach to the barrel," the creator explains. "I came up with a handheld jigsaw jig for the circular cuts, but the vertical parts of the box that intersect two simultaneous curves were basically hand-carved with a flap-disk sander."
The arcade is based on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ running RetroPie, which allows the machine to work as a retro gaming machine. It includes USB joysticks and buttons for the complete gaming experience, while the barrel enclosure gives it a unique look perfect for any basement bar. What's more, it features Logitech z506 speakers on both sides of the control panel.
To enhance its appearance, breadtangle gave it a glass top sitting on a rubber car door edge protector. This tabletop is constructed from a leftover countertop sourced from a local kitchen place, and is finished with traditional arcade T-molding for durability.
But that's not all. The Raspberry Pi also runs Raspotify, which enables streaming Spotify from a phone. More details on the project are available on Reddit.
