This has got to be the year's best costume (📷: rayl8w)

Halloween may be in the rear view mirror, but the creative costume ideas people came up with are still floating around the web. Among them, you’d be hard pressed to find a better costume than the one Redditor rayl8w made. This costume turned him into a human-sized, fully functional digital camera, and no doubt the most popular person at every Halloween party.

The build is surprisingly simple. An old phone was used to take pictures when triggered by a pushbutton. It uploads those photos to a website where they can be viewed in a gallery. An iPad attached to the back of the costume, serving as the screen, shows this website so people can see the photos you take. A small RP2040 microcontroller development board orchestrates the entire process. The rest of the costume is nothing more than old cardboard boxes and spray paint.

If you are anything like me, right about now you are wishing you had thought of this idea yourself. Or rather, you are wishing you had thought of it a few weeks ago. But on the bright side, it is never too early to start planning for next Halloween!
