We’ve seen plenty of Arduino and LEGO projects in the past, but none may be as intriguing (and certainly not as nostalgic) as the Brown Dog Gadgets team’s latest build, which is meant to showcase their current Crazy Circuits Kickstarter campaign.
As seen in their video below, apparently everything is more fun when made as a giant LEGO version of itself. The various LEGO movies would seem to support that theory, and Brown Dog Gadgets’ massive NES controller surely doesn’t disappoint.
The brains of the device is their Teensy-based Crazy Touch Board, which has been programmed to emulate a generic USB keyboard. There are eight 12mm push buttons inside the LEGO shell, and everything is wired up with nylon conductive tape.
Since the gigantic gamepad features well over $100 in little plastic parts, they also created a smaller (yet still quite large) handheld model using a laser-cut wooden enclosure, standard-sized 6mm buttons, and some LEGO internals to keep everything in place.
You can see it all in action below, and check out the Crazy Circuits crowdfunding campaign here. Want to build your own? A step-by-step tutorial can be found on Hackster!
