A Game Boy Wedding Cartridge

This custom Game Boy cartridge simulates wedding, puts your gift to shame.

Redditor NiliusJulius’ friends are getting married, so he did what is expected of any wedding guest… and programmed a custom Game Boy cartridge that simulates the wedding ceremony, along with a beautiful presentation that matches the Game Boy/wedding/cat(?) theme exquisitely.

As seen in the short demo video below, the game starts with the typical Nintendo “da-ding” chime, then progresses to a bride and groom holding hands, ready to answer the all important Dutch query of “Wat is daarop uw antwoord?” (“What is your answer to that?").

Presumably, this refers to whether or not you'd like to marry the other person, and the player can select between “ja” and “nee.” Any attempt to “nee out” of the situation, however, is met with no response.

After an affirmative "ja" from both parties, you’re then given a “gefeliciteerd” (congratulations) on your success, presumably living happily ever after. Externally, the cartridge packaging is done well enough the pictures could be confused for a genuine Game Boy cartridge. It's decorated with a nicely styled cartoon of the bride, groom, and cats, alongside the blue and silver GAME BOY labeling.

The actual hardware used here is a Game Boy pocket, with a backlit screen and custom labeling. The cartridge is of course running firmware of NiliusJulius’ design, which was written in C using the Game Boy Developer’s Kit, or more specifically GBDK-2020.
