I’m sure you’ll be very surprised to learn that golf is a pretty expensive sport. Even after spending hundreds on a basic set of clubs, you’ll need to shell out a small fortune every time you want to go to a course or even a driving range for practice. Indoor practice can help alleviate those costs and Joel Telling demonstrates how you can make that more convenient with a 3D-printed golf ball dispenser.

Telling didn’t design this golf ball dispenser. That was done by the talented christofer.jh over on Maker World, who has published quite a few nifty 3D-printable gadgets, gizmos, and trinkets. But Telling is the one with the massive YouTube following, so his video is how I found out about this golf ball dispenser. And that video is interesting to me, even though I don’t play golf and can’t hit a golf ball without it somehow ending up behind me.

Notably, Telling printed the golf ball dispenser on a Bambu Lab H2S in 8-year-old ABS. That’s ancient for 3D printer filament and shows just how well ABS holds up to long term storage. Because it doesn’t really absorb ambient moisture in the air like other popular filament materials, it is fine—just don’t keep it in direct sunlight.

Telling describes the build process in his video and explains the way the whole contraption works. It is entirely mechanical and feeds balls from a hopper at the tap of a club. It drops balls one at a time down a ramp, so they always end up right back at the same spot and are ready to hit. No shuffling around necessary! And the hopper holds quite a few balls, so you can practice for a while before you need to collect them from your net and refill.
