Jeanis an insightful innovator who works on hard problems, including in the biomedical realm. The Spectra biomedical imaging platform provided affordable electrical impedance tomography, which can safely replace X-rays or other imaging techniques for some health applications, as well as citizen science.
Sophyhas a wealth of experience across design, prop-making, and wearables, including last year’s screen-worthy space helmet. She’s been working on a stunningly beautiful 3D-printed and fabric outfit — can’t wait to see this one in real life! Sophy challenges herself to dream big, which is just one of the reasons we admire her.
Helendeveloped the Mini.mu, a Micro:bit-based, child-friendly version of Imogen Heap’s smart glove for controlling music. We had a ton of fun building one in the studio, and you should also look out for her sound machines, built using the BELA platform.
Barb is an LA-based maker who creates wonderfully playful devices, including the iconic Soldercorns shown in the video above, as well as an octopus companion robot. Her nerdery has deep ties with classic RPG culture.
I deeply admire Krystal’sdesign skills, and how she’s chosen to apply that experience to improving the world. She has created microbe-powered electronic systems, as well as the stylish Window Solar Charger and a custom kitty-shaped solar installation.
Jeriis famous within the hardware sphere, with a long reputation for creating innovative electronic and gaming systems. We spoke about her latest venture, an AR platform for tabletop gaming, which embodies several of Jeri’s own optical patents, as well as her spirit: the company was resurrected after its first iteration failed.
