3D Print Your Own Yarn Winder for Free
3D print BGDglider’s free yarn winder model to wind your yarn.
Do you have a bunch of loose yarn? Or anything stringlike? Do you want it spooled up in a nice, tidy bundle? Then you’ll want to 3D print BGDglider’s free yarn winder model.
This is a simple, manually cranked yarn winder that you can make using any 3D printer. Even though it isn’t motorized, it is very quick. That’s because it has a gear system to turn the slow crank movement into fast spool rotation. That spool is canted relative to the axis of its rotation, so the yarn winds neatly.
BGDglider previously designed a similar yarn winder driven via a TPU belt, instead of gears. This new version is simpler and only requires PLA. It doesn’t even require fasteners or bearings. It is 100% printable on any 3D printer with the build volume to fit the parts — which includes almost every 3D printer on the market today. Heck, a lot of models can probably even print all of the parts at once on a single plate.
This was entered into the Printables Fall into Knitting contest, which also has several other yarn winder designs. But BGDglider’s is our favorite because of its simplicity and the fact that it is 100% printable.
