Lights for Life Challenge, sponsored by GE
Thank you for participating! Winners were selected and notified. The big announcement will be made at World Maker Faire in NYC - October 1st 2016.
Calling all Makers! Make: has partnered with GE and Hackster.io to bring you this really cool challenge, and we’re excited to offer you an invitation to participate. The future of lighting isn’t just about illumination, it’s about intelligence. Because the average home has 45 light sockets with unobstructed vantage points and a power source, lighting is uniquely positioned to be the “glue” of the smart home. When your lightbulbs go beyond simply being on or off to become Bluetooth®-enabled connectivity points — well, the possibilities come to light, don’t they?
This is a call to inventors, hardware developers, and designers to bring your vision of intelligently connected lighting to life! Show us your bright idea — like how to know when your kids arrive home from school while you’re still at work, or how to closely monitor an elderly parent, or how to locate your dog when it’s time to go for a walk. You’re encouraged to consider lighting from every angle, from table and floor lamps to light bulbs and Bluetooth®-enabled devices to voice-activated illumination or lights triggered by temperature sensors.
The winning designer will be awarded $25,000, and have their idea developed, manufactured and taken to market by the team at GE, to become an extension of the C by GE product family.
The first place winner and two runners-up will receive an all-expense paid trip to NYC to be showcased at the World Maker Faire New York in October 2016!
