The aim is to build a battery-backed lighting system that cuts in in the event of a mains supply failure.
There should be multiple low-power DC lighting fixtures dotted around the space, hooked up to a common 12V feed. This feed comes from a battery that is kept topped up with a float charger. When the power goes off, a relay will disengage the charger and connect the 12V rail to the battery, and power up all the lights.
As an added bonus we could easy also trigger the relay from a GPIO on toad, and use it as a webcam camera 'flash'
