At school we have for the moment an system to reserve laptops. Teachers can reserve these to use in their lessons. They system we have at the moment Goes as following: the teachers reserve the laptop on smartschool and then the can collect them at the secretary. The problem is the system isn't safe sometimes it happens people collect laptops without reserving them. Our goal was to make a safer system. The teachers reserve the laptops on a website and then they can collect the at a locker. Each has an raid tag or card, they hold the card against the system and only when the have reserved the laptops the lockers will pop open an they can collect the laptops. The system registers the usage of the teachers. So we known who brings back the laptops to late.
Hardware and making: We made a prototype that fits 5 phones. We made the locker out of wood. There are six compartments 5 lockers and 1 for the electronica. The brain from the locker is a raspberry pi, this will run an web server, database, rfid, control the locks and read the sensors. in each compartiment there are 2 sensors 1 for the door and 1 to check if the laptop is in the locker. There are also a couple of safety solutions. If the power goes down there is an manual door at the back so the laptops are still available, off course this door is locked by an key.
Usage: The teachers reserve the laptops on a site. the are able to see if there are laptops left and with one's they can reserve. When the have reserved a laptop for a particular course the can collect the laptop in the time of that course. the unlock the doors by holding their rfid card against the reader. If they have collected the laptops they have to close they doors and when they bring them back the simply hold the card against the system and then the doors will pop open again so they can return the laptops safely.
