Like most games these days, Rock Star’s Red Dead Redemption II has a number of achievements that players can unlock. There are achievements for killing every type of wild game, for finding the graves of all your fallen companions, and probably for lassoing a whole village or something. There are also Gambler Challenges, which are designed to teach children — I mean responsible adults — the value of a good game of chance. Redditor ZareK33 came up with an Arduino-based solution for one in particular.

The challenge in question requires the player to win three hands of blackjack by hitting three times or more. As any bonafide gambler will tell you, that’s quite difficult. It means you have to win a hand with a total of five cards equaling 21 or less. There isn’t any way to accomplish that feat through skill, you just have to play hand after hand until you happen to get a handful of low cards.

ZareK33, being a true gamer, wasn’t going to have any of the luck-dependent nonsense and found a better solution. They taped a small hobby servo motor to the grip of the PlayStation 4 controller, and used an Arduino Uno to control it. It’s programmed to simply push the X button over and over again, which keeps the character hitting again and again — and then starts the next hand. All ZareK33 had to do was go out for a really long lunch, and then return home to a shiny new trophy!
