Aside from a time-travelling DeLorean and hoverboard, there’s one other notable design from Back To The Future II that has left us eagerly waiting to get our hands on (or feet in) for years: a pair of self-lacing Nike Mags. Although the footwear brand has unveiled an actual pair of auto-tying shoes, the “HyperAdapt 1.0” aren’t exactly affordable.
So Kemal Ficici decided to build his own. The Maker accomplished this using some knockoff Nikes, a microcontroller and a pressure sensor that triggers a motor to tighten the laces whenever his foot is inserted. Once he removes his foot, the pressure sensor detects a decrease in pressure and subsequently loosens the laces.
