Air pollution refers to the release of air pollutants that are detrimental to the human life and planet as a whole. It occurs because of both human as well as industrial activities. There are millions of vehicles running on roads. The smoke emitted by burning fuels from these vehicles consists of carbon dioxide and other gases. Since all the fuels are not made of pure hydrocarbons, its not completely burnt in the engines which contributes to pollution. Apart from the vehicles, many other household and industrial activities also contribute to a certain extent to air pollution. Air Pollution renders air unfit for respiration by humans and animals. Air pollution problem has been aggravated by the tremendous increase in the number of mobile sources (motor vehicles) in urban areas.
As a result of inhaling this polluted air, human beings have become victims for many fatal diseases. So monitoring the level of various pollutants in the atmosphere is essential. This project aims to have an advanced monitoring system for detection of various air pollutants .The system focuses on pollution monitoring on real time basis using IoT. In the proposed idea, five sensors viz. humidity, temperature, Carbon-monoxide, carbon dioxide and optical dust sensors are used. These sensors are connected with an Arduino. The device measures the pollutants in the air and generates real time data, which is stored in cloud using IoT. This data can be seen either in a computer or an android device using the web link of the cloud data.
