Leaks in pipelines, whether for oil, gas, or water, are a frequently occurring problem in infrastructure worldwide. Leakages are often accompanied by a set of associated events that can be detected with cheap sensors, allowing for activists to monitor pipelines in their local communities for early detection and response to leakage. Such events include disruptions picked up from an IR sensor, detectable noise, and changes in normal vibration levels.
By providing access to a variety of these measurements together with the Intel Edison, we're able to provide users with the ability to monitor pipelines for changes that affect their local communities. With enough different data sources false positives that can be introduced by merely one form of monitoring can be avoided.
