This is my concept for the Derive Watch, for the design portion I choose to go with a very sleek and kind of ethereal feel - Derive is an adventure that allows you to get "lost" in a big city, and to me it is reminiscent of getting lost in space among all the stars, seeing new sights with every turn.
A user can set themselves to curious/offline if they wish to receive invitations from other users. From that point on all they have to do is wait for an invitation from another user or until they need to go offline. A user can also set up a new Derive adventure, and then follow the prompts on the screen to proceed through the rest of the options on the screens. The final destination is only available to the person who set up the adventure, and the number of people attending is only available to the person who set up the adventure as well. The rest of the users, besides selecting the offline/curious button on their phone, will interact with the application through their watch.
I used a lot of buttons in my design, I believe that buttons are a good design choice because upon seeing a button we know have a existing mental model of what we should do - which is click it. Every time we click a button we have feedback this showing the visibility of system status, and the forward and back buttons on the screens allows for user control and freedom. I also kept a very minimalist design since too many colors, words, options can cause confusion in a user. I want this to be an application that anyone can understand and use easily. This application's target users are generally people from 18-40 who have some time to explore the city while meeting up with friends at the same time, although this application is not limited to that group. People in this age group tend to have some free time and have the appropriate navigation and observation skills to make the most out of their experience. After the time is set, invited friends will receive a notification on their smart watch screen to accept or reject the invitation as shown below.
The watch application has the same kind of interface shared with the phone application, it has the same kind of design and user experience principles. It's very minimalist with a map application, time remaining, and some walking instructions. The map is meant to supplement the walking instructions in case anything ins unclear, and it is also used to map out notable attractions in the area. At the end of the journey, a summary is provided in case the user did not know the names for any of the places that they had visited.
