Description
Have you ever wondered how old you would be on Mars? Well, with this Android application you can find out! Solar You (c) allows you to enter your age in years for any of the planets (if you aren't 5 you should know all of them). The application will then automatically convert it to corresponding age for one of the other planets.
But wait there's more! In the Planetary Edition, you will now be able to input both your age in years AND days. It has improved visuals and aesthetic iconography like actual pictures of planets (found on wikipedia). If that's not enough, the Planetary Edition also supports the conversion of weight. And for those curious people, the Planetary Edition now enables conversion between one planet and all other planets. Talk about information overload!
How it Works
The application consists of one main activity (basically a screen). There is a top bar that allows you to choose a reference planet. The picture changes as you select different planets from the spinner. The rest of the bar is dedicated to the input EditText objects. These allow you to input your age in years and days and your weight in pounds (although if you think about it the exact units here don't matter).
I added listeners to all of the text input options so whenever the user updates any of the values, all of the results are automatically changed to reflect the correct values. I thought this was more intuitive than having to press a button.
The bottom section of the screen is dedicated to the results. It consists of a ScrollView of all eight planets. The converted values, calculated using basic dimensional analysis, and a picture of each planet appears on each row. The top bar stays attached at the top of the screen allowing the user to easily see the reference planet without having to scroll back up.
Everything is coded up using RelativeLayout. I personally think it easier to use than LinearLayout and I also think it is a lot more flexible.
